Snowflakes 2022-11-03 (Fairbanks, AK, US)

I made my first attempt at drawing snowflakes during my lunch break, using a handheld 10x magnifying lens. The drawings are a bit rough, but I found a few interesting ones:

Snowflake Sketches

I learned toward then end that it is not practical to try to sketch each snowflake with perfect artistic accurancy, but rather to draw all the geometric shapes you see, and then shade them in to make the drawing look good.

To keep the flakes from melting, I let the flakes fall on a cold freezer pack, and then I take the pack to a sheltered location (still outside in the cold, though). Current temperature at PAFA is 13°F. I had to go inside between drawings to keep my fingers from getting numb.
